Conversion to climate-stable continuous cover forest in Kempten.

From pure coniferous forest to stable mixed forest. Through targeted forest conversion, we strengthen biodiversity and secure carbon storage in the Allgäu region.

Location & Characteristics

The 'Pool 1' project area is located in the Upper Allgäu district near Kempten at an altitude of approx. 700–900m. The region is characterized by boreal coniferous forests (spruce, pine, larch), which are now being actively converted.

  • Soil: Nutrient-rich soils of the pre-Alpine molasse and moraines.
  • Climate: Rain-rich, cool pre-Alpine climate.
  • Forest Stand: Dominance of spruce, pine, and larch (Boreal Coniferous Forest).

Strategie

Continuous Cover through Structural Diversity

The goal is the transformation into a climate-resilient mixed forest (CCF). Through selective harvesting and promoting vertical layering, stable structures are created. Target biomass is 180–260 t/ha. We are creating a forest that regenerates itself and withstands extreme weather events.

Permanent Satellite Monitoring

In cooperation with Remote Sensing Solutions GmbH (RSS), we permanently monitor all our forests. If a forest fire or deforestation is detected, tokens are immediately locked.

Your Project, Your Questions

Everything worth knowing about methodology and participation.

What does Continuous-Cover Forestry (CCF) mean?
CCF means that the forest is never clear-cut. Harvesting is always selective, so the soil remains permanently protected and covered.
Why is the conversion necessary?
Pure coniferous forests are vulnerable to storms and beetles in climate change. Mixed forests with hardwoods are significantly more stable and store carbon more securely.
Which tree species are promoted?
We specifically introduce hardwoods and fir to break the dominance of spruce and establish a healthy mixed forest.
